New Year

I wanted to start writing in 2009 on the topic I like most - GIRLS. But this new year, I had so much fun (and girls were totally missing from the picture), that I decided to write first about my New Year and New Year Celebrations.

I don't really believe in celebrating a day. Take the case of New Year, for instance - Why celebrate a day which marks the first day of a calendar, when the calendar could have started on any day. I mean, Feb 1st could have as well marked the beginning of New Year. Or take the case of your Birthday  - now why should you only celebrate it every year? You could just as well celebrate it every month, week, 59hrs or any such random time. Infact, for Brahmins (atleast my sub-sub-....-sub-sect of Brahmins) 60th birthday is celebrated very grandly - only for those who live long enough to see that day, obviously.

But following my current motto, "Ask why not, not why", I decided to welcome 2009 in a grand way. First plan was to party hard in Mount Opera which, like most plans, got cancelled. Towards the end of New Year's eve we (me and a couple of friends) ended up in Yellow Chilli in Banjara Hills. Unlimited booze, food and a dance floor - all for Rs. 1150 only. What a coincidence, they were also serving Red Romanov, which I had read about just that morning. The party was great - started with a couple of drinks, then dance, then drinks, then dance, then desserts, then drinks, then dance and so on. The party left me on a high and I had such a good time, that towards the end I was even dancing with the bartenders (don't trust me on that, I don't clearly remember what happened that night). But one plan did work out, and it worked out pretty well too - not because I had left it to God but because I had left it to my brother to pick me up at 1 a.m., so that I could sleep at his place. Next morning, I was back home all neat and tidy :) And with that ended the NYE party.

Jan 1st was relatively much sober. They say whatever you do on Jan 1st, you continue doing that for the rest of the year. Now, I don't know how that works out but if that were true, then I would be fooling around the entire year. Because the day started with me and my brother fooling a cousin and making him come over to our place. (The poor chap wasn't even in Hyd at that time.) After that was a really, really long drive within the city and hours of pulling each other's legs. I decided to give it all a fitting finale by making a call - a call to the first girl on my cousin's Phonebook. It was simple, make the call and say, "Hi, May I speak to Anil." and the conversation carries on. The day ended with a big, family dinner at the 4 Seasons. A great start to 2009, so far.

Jan 2nd, 2009: An occassion bigger than the new year, for me to celebrate. I was finally going to begin billing - no more bench, not anymore. The price - I had to survive an extremely tiring presentation during lunch time. But beggars don't dictate. But things soon became brighter, and as it was a Friday, as per the protocol i went for a movie (second-show) - Mahanagaramlo. Dumb movie - bad story, bad script, bad direction, bad camerawork, useless music, utterly useless lead actors, even worse "item" girls.. even a free ticket isn't worth it. And this movie sort of marked the end of the New Year Dhamaka.

But who knows. Tomorrow might turn out be a great day again.
